Ape Canyon Trail

Sunday Lori, Siobhan and I got out for a hike of Ape Canyon Trail on Mt. St. Helens. Weather was not the best but this hike can still be very nice in marginal conditions. The trail goes up along Muddy Creek in a section of old growth forest the was spared by the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. From the trail we had a view of the large mud flow that happen during the eruption and how it has recovered today. The trail does a moderate climb up to the Plans of Abraham that was at the edge of the blast zone. This area was scoured of all life in the eruption and is slowly coming back to life. We ended up doing 2485 feet elevation gain and 11 miles round trip.
