Mt. Hood Drive

It was great weather so a good time to do an exploratory drive up to Mt. Hood. What I wanted to check on were campsites, An ADA trail at Lost Creek Campground, snow level and road conditions. Also to see how busy it is on a nice weekend and it is busy up there. I walked the Lost Creek nature trail and found it like all of the other ADA trail no longer passable with a standard wheelchair and yet the Forest Service still promotes these trails as wheelchair accessible. Plus they want to charge you $10 to use it.

Next I drove up to the trailhead for Top Spur Trail and found the road in bad condition, the parking lot full but by going further down the road I found some good camping spots. As I went further down the road it got pretty brushed over so I park and hiked down the road a ways. Finally it was so brushy I turned back. When I go back to the van I heated up some chili for my first hot meal in the van. I finished up driving over to little Crater Lake to find the road had been fixed, the meadow was green but no flowers and that it was so busy there was no place left to park. This is why we don’t hike on weekend. So I headed home and called it a day.
