I got out for a teaching hike with Lori and Dinah on Sunday. This was an easy hike up the Labyrinth by Coyote Wall. The hike was around 7 to 8 mile and 1200 elevation again. The focus for this hike was to teach how to use a map and compass and how to stay found, review the 10 essential and overnight survival and to do some rock scrambling for preparation for climbing Mt. St. Helen. Normally this time of year this area would be green everywhere with streams high and flower blooming. This year the place is drying and browning out fast, most of the streams have dried up and just late season flowers blooming. But the poison oak was in abundance and spreading fast. It won’t be long before the trails will be overgrown by the stuff.
